Bangkok-bound

I’m typing this on Conal’s iBook (Hi Conal!)

Just got back from the REM concert, which was amazing. Had I not had an amazing seat to REM, I would already be in Thailand… or given the length of the flight, I would have been about to arrive there now.

No worries, though, it was worth it to be that close to Stipe. They even trotted out a bunch of older songs. So. Central Rain, Fall on Me, Don’t go back to Rockville… Stipe was in good spirits.

Still, though, NOTHING from Monster? I’m well aware that my love of that album is not shared by a ton of people. Can’t quite say what it is about it, but I’m all about Monster. I think the last REM concert I saw was on the Monster tour. Jeremy said he saw them in 99 on the Up tour (I think), but I think I didn’t make that one.

That would mean my last full-length REM show (they’ve played Bridge before) would have been at Hersheypark Arena, with Radiohead opening. I mean, REM is touring Monster, and Radiohead is touring The Bends, on the same bill? I think I heard what heaven was like that night. Two favorite albums from two favorite bands.

So, yeah, tonight was good, but it is kind of strange because tonight has so often been this far-off thing. The oft-referenced event before I leave for Thailand, and now it is over… leaving me only one thing left to do.

Oh, one thing I just did was to put in a sell order on some company stock. They have been underwater forEVER and I basically thought I would sell them to lose money one year, but we’ve been climbing. I am now less than $1 underwater. I think we’re kind of solid now, but just in case, I set it for $7 above my option grant. I have $28s, so if by some fluke the price ever hits $35, there will be a SWEET check waiting for me when I get back.

Oh well, I guess it is time to try and fall asleep, wake up, and head to Thailand.

Very surreal. I mean saying you’re going to something and doing it are very different.

I’ve been saying it for so long, it became a routine. See REM, crash at my friend Jeremy’s house, fly to Thailand. But now, I saw REM. And I’m at Jeremy’s house.

Thailand, here I come!

I will be sure to post an entry from Bangkok, as I think my guesthouse has Internet access. Hard to tell, as they have two guesthouses, with different options. Not sure if mine has Internet access or the other one does…

Oh well, it’s Bangkok, lots of Internet cafes, etc.

Ultimately, though, my goal is to not write online much, not be online much, detach.

Let’s see if I can detach now…
