New gig…

So, almost a year to the date of getting fired by Macromedia, I am starting a new job. No, nothing corporate this time. Instead, it is doing seasonal retail work downtown at Macy’s.

I’m still mixed about it. On one hand, it will be good to have money flowing in again. On the other, the hours to money ratio ain’t what it used to be. Actually, I’m still working the number to see if my hourly wage multiplied by my number of hours minus taxes will pay my rent. Depending on my new lower tax bracket, it might just clear my rent. Barely.

That of course leaves out buying all my organic food, entertainment, a bus pass to get to/from work, union dues, etc.

We’ll see if it works out. I may have to jump at something else for more money at some point. But, that won’t be until after the new year. I’ll work through the holiday season without quitting for a better job anyway, see what happens. Having any regular money come in to augment the savings account is a good thing.

I think it might be worthwhile to push for a higher wage gig with commission, which I intend to do this week. They’ve barely started hiring seasonals, so might still be other departments that can raise the income a bit.

Last I checked, the only commission option was womens’ shoes, which didn’t really appeal.

I’m still surprised it’s been a year since Macromedia axed me. So many changes since then. So much more relaxed and happy. Just need to resolve that pesky money thing.
